About the artist
This is a delightful light-hearted, lively, painting of a cat eyeing up the mice on the dining table and waiting for his chance to pounce!
James came from a family of artists and was born in Edinburgh. His father was John Bucknell Russell 1820- 1893. He was a painter of sporting scenes. He was most famous for his paintings of fish commissioned by the Duke of Richmond. His brother Charles was also an artist.
